HOUSTON, Texas – July 22, 2025 – BlueGreen Water Technologies, a global leader in sustainable water treatment solutions, announced that its LakeGuard® OXY and Lake Guard® Blue solutions have secured regulatory approval for safe use in drinking water applications in Brazil. Granted under the ABNT NBR15784:2023 standard and validated by NSFBrasil, the certification affirms both products are safe forpotable water, clearing the way for BlueGreen to expand into one of the world’s largest and most water-challenged markets.
The approval confirms full compliance with Brazil’s rigorous national safety standards for chemicals used to treat drinking water. It represents a key regulatory milestone for BlueGreen as the company continues to scale its global footprint and meet growing international demand forreliable, science-based solutions to harmful algal blooms (HABs) which increasingly impact fresh water bodies.
“This clearance offers an important treatment pathway to water-stressed communities across Brazil, which face increasing threats to safe water access due to algal blooms,” said Oleg Tsvibel, Chief Operating Officer of BlueGreen Water Technologies. “With our technology now certified safe for use in drinking water, we’re ready to partner with local stakeholders to support cleaner, healthier, and more resilient water systems.”
The certification is based on extensive laboratory evaluations conducted in São Paulo, overseen by NSF Brasil and in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). The assessments confirmed that both LakeGuard® OXY and Lake Guard® Blue meet all national health safety requirements, including compliance with permissible thresholds for metal impurities in potable water.
In recent months, BlueGreen engaged local leaders, experts, and environmental authorities through workshops and consultations focused on sustainable remediation and long-term water stewardship. The company’s approach emphasizes both rapid treatment of HABs and long-term strategies to prevent recurrence, combining science, technology, and community collaboration.
“We’re deeply committed to expanding access to safe drinking water and protecting aquatic ecosystems from the growing threat of harmful algal blooms. Brazil is a strategic priority for us, and this certification allows us to bring proven, trusted solutions to support clean water efforts across the region,” said Jan Spin, President of Americas of BlueGreen Water Technologies.
With active operations across five continents, BlueGreen continues to build momentum as a trusted partner in climate-resilient water management. Its Lake Guard® technology is already approved by leading regulatory agencies, including the U.S. EPA, and is increasingly recognized as a scalable model for addressing HAB outbreaks and advancing global watersecurity.
