“Our treatment produced dramatic results in just 48 hours.”
Ecuador has seen meteoric growth in shrimp production, exporting over 1 million metric tons of the critters in 2022- a record milestone. The thriving industry depends on healthy waters to grow their catch, but harmful algal blooms have emerged as a growing threat.
BlueGreen partnered with Grivalmar USA this summer, deploying its innovative floating algaecide in trials conducted by Chief Science Officer, Dr. Moshe Harel and US Scientific Director, Dr. Jessica Frost.
“We devised a treatment protocol for both fresh and saltwater ponds,” says Dr. Frost. “Our treatment produced dramatic results in just 48 hours. We noted a significant change in the environment after treatment.”
BlueGreen’s science team met with shrimp farmers and deployed in boats on several aquaculture ponds to survey the situation and apply the treatment.
“We were excited to see such dramatic success in cost-effectively and significantly improving water quality and yield,” says Dr. Moshe Harel. “We understand how important the shrimp industry is to Ecuador and are happy to do our part in helping farmers thrive. “
